Major Electronix offers a line of wire accessories from Hoffman Products, a division of TPC Wire & Cable, which includes nylon cable ties, closed end connectors and heat shrink tubing. The cable ties are all made from black nylon 6/6, and range in length from 4" to 14.5". The nylon 6/6 is a strong, durable material that is also self-extinguishing, meeting the standards for UL94 V-2. A UL94 V-2 flammability rating indicates that the material can self-extinguish within 30 seconds. These cable ties are adjustable to the size you need and are self-locking, creating a permanent bundle. They are perfect for use in the industrial environment, as they withstand shock, vibration and exposure to certain chemicals. They also feature UV protection, so they can even be put to use outside.

The closed end connectors, also referred to as crimp connectors, are also made from nylon 6/6 and have a tin plated copper insert. They come in differing sizes, being able to accommodate wire gauges ranging from 18-22 AWG to 8 AWG. The nylon carries the same flammability rating as the cable ties, creating a form of insulation for the insert, and the tin plating on the insert protects it from deterioration. When it is necessary to join several wires together at once, the insert in the connector is crimped in order to keep the connection in place. This becomes especially important in applications that are prone to vibration.

Heat shrink tubing is used for insulation on wires, as well as to create a protective barrier against dust and moisture. It is available with either a 2:1 or 3:1 shrink ratio, meaning once it is introduced, it will retract to one half or one third of its original diameter. The 3:1 heat shrink is dual wall tubing, with an adhesive lining that melts when exposed to heat. The 2:1 heat shrink is perfect for inline components and splices, while the 3:1 tubing is ideal for electrical and power distribution. When cable ties are not handy or not necessary, heat shrink also works well as a temporary harness. The shrink tubing is offered in varying diameter sizes, in different reel lengths, depending on the size.
