Which Major 5000 Series wire stripper fits your application?Start with the wire gauge and insulation material, then confirm the outside insulation diameter and strip length. These limits work together; wire gauge alone is not enough to determine compatibility. Major 5001: 30–14 AWG with Teflon or PVC insulationThe Major 5001 wire stripper covers 30–14 AWG wire and stripping lengths from 0.062 to 0.4 inches. Its insulation options include Teflon, PVC and similar materials, with a maximum insulation diameter of 0.162 inches. It offers the shortest minimum strip length in this series, making it a model to evaluate when preparing short exposed wire ends for terminals or connectors. Major 5002: 30–10 AWG PVC-insulated wireThe Major 5002 wire stripping machine covers 30–10 AWG PVC-insulated wire, with a 0.12–0.79-inch stripping length and a maximum insulation diameter of 0.196 inches. Its cycle time is 0.5 seconds. Evaluate it for harness and panel wiring that needs a broader AWG range than the 5001 while remaining within the PVC insulation limits. 5002-S: touch-controlled setup for 30–14 AWGThe 5002-S wire stripping machine combines a digital touch display with V-blade stripping for flexible PVC conductors. Its service counter tracks 500,000 cycles, supporting maintenance planning alongside repetitive small-wire preparation. Major 5003: 14–6 AWG PVC-insulated wireThe Major 5003 wire stripping machine covers the largest conductors in the series, from 14 to 6 AWG. It accepts PVC insulation with an outside diameter up to 0.315 inches and supports stripping lengths from 0.12 to 0.79 inches. Evaluate this model for larger-gauge equipment wiring where the 5001 and 5002 do not cover the required conductor size. 5005: automatic cutting-depth setup for 20–14 AWGThe 5005 wire stripping machine senses supported wire gauges and sets cutting depth automatically. Evaluate it for workstations that alternate among supported flexible single-conductor sizes. Confirm insulation compatibility with your wire sample. Major 5000 Series wire stripper FAQsClick or tap to expandWhich Major 5000 Series model strips 6 AWG wire? The Major 5003 covers 14–6 AWG wire. For 6 AWG applications, confirm PVC insulation, an outside insulation diameter no greater than 0.315 inches and a stripping length within 0.12–0.79 inches. Which model can strip Teflon-insulated wire? The Major 5001 supports Teflon, PVC or similar insulation within its 30–14 AWG range and 0.162-inch maximum insulation diameter. The other models work with mainly PVC insulation. Contact Major Electronix to arrange testing of your particular wire. What is the difference between stripping length and minimum infeed length?Stripping length is the length of insulation removed from the wire end. Minimum infeed length includes that strip length plus the machine-specific allowance. For a 0.25-inch strip, the minimum infeed length is 0.75 inches for the 5001, 1.12 inches for the 5002, 0.84 inches for the 5002-S, 1.11 inches for the 5003, and 1.19 for the 5005. How do the Major 5002 and 5003 differ? The 5002 processes 30–10 AWG PVC-insulated wire with a maximum insulation diameter of 0.196 inches and a 0.5-second cycle time. The 5003 processes 14–6 AWG PVC-insulated wire with a maximum insulation diameter of 0.315 inches and a 1-second cycle time. Both have a 0.12–0.79-inch stripping length and a 100–240 V voltage rating. How do the 5002-S and 5005 differ? The 5002-S provides touch-controlled operation for 30–14 AWG flexible PVC wire. The 5005 adds automatic cutting-depth setup for supported 20–14 AWG conductors. Can Major Electronix test my wire before I choose a machine?Yes.
