JORC Level Sensing Condensate Drain Valves: High Pressure & Alarm Models Explained
Compressed Air Systems
JORC SMART-GUARD Level Sensing Condensate Drain Valves Explained
On-demand draining · Up to 725 PSI · Alarm notifications · Covers systems up to 3,500 CFM
⚠️
Are Your Timer Drains Costing You?
Timer-controlled drains open on a fixed schedule, blowing out compressed air even if there's
no condensate to remove. Level-sensing drains only open when liquid is actually present, eliminating unnecessary air loss and reducing wear. If your system runs variable loads, the switch pays for itself fast.

🔩
SMART-GUARD-HP: For High Pressure Systems
Handles up to 725 PSI · Works up to 3,500 CFM compressed air systems
When to choose the HP model:
- System operating pressure above 230 PSI
- Large industrial compressors (up to 3,500 CFM)
- High condensate volumes: handles 31 gal/hr
- Applications where standard drains have failed under pressure
⚡ HP vs. Standard: Key Difference
3× the pressure range of a standard drain
🔔
SMART-GUARD-MINI-AL: Compact Drain with Alarm Output
12 gal/hr · 230 PSI max · Dual DIN connectors · Ideal for dryers and filters
How the dual DIN connections work:
TOP
Power Input: Connect to your 24V DC or 110/230V AC power supply via DIN 43650 Form B
BOT
Alarm Output: Wire to your external alarm, PLC, or monitoring panel
When does the alarm fire?
Alarm triggers after 100+ consecutive valve openings without stopping.
This signals one of two problems:
- Debris clogging the valve (clean or replace)
- Condensate load exceeding the drain's capacity (upgrade needed)
💡
Best fit: Refrigerated air dryers and compressed air filter housings. The mini footprint installs where full-size drains won't.
🔧 Standard Features: Every SMART-GUARD Model
🔌
Dual DIN 43650 Form B Connectors
Industry-standard plug-in connections for fast, tool-free wiring
🪣
Built-In Mesh Strainer
Catches debris before it reaches the valve seat, extending service life
💡
LED Status Indicator
Instantly shows power status and valve activity, no tools needed to check operation
🧪
Manual Test Button
Force-open the valve to verify operation during commissioning or routine checks
📊
Level-Sensing Drain Logic (vs. Timer Drains)
Opens
only when condensate reaches the sensor, not on a timer. Result: no wasted compressed air between drain cycles, and no condensate overflow if production rates spike unexpectedly.
🗓️ Maintenance Schedule: Quick Reference
🧹
Periodic
Clean the mesh strainer. Frequency depends on air quality and condensate load. Inspect when flow seems reduced.
🔍
Annual (Minimum)
Full inspection of valve operation, connections, and seals. Use the manual test button to confirm proper open/close function.
🛠️
As Needed
Service kits available for both SMART-GUARD and SMART-GUARD-MINI series. Kits include housing gaskets and valve replacement components.
✅
Pro tip: Keep a service kit on-site. Swapping gaskets during planned downtime is far cheaper than emergency service on a leaking drain.
🚨
Troubleshooting: Common Issues & Fixes
🔴 Drain is cycling too frequently / MINI-AL alarm is active
Likely causes:
- Condensate load exceeds rated capacity (12 gal/hr for MINI-AL): consider upgrading to a full-size SMART-GUARD
- Debris lodged in valve or strainer causing partial blockage: clean or replace strainer
🔴 Valve not draining / condensate backing up
Check in order:
- Press the manual test button. If valve opens, power and control are working; issue is sensor or strainer
- Inspect and clean the mesh strainer (most common cause)
- Confirm operating pressure is within rated range for your model
- If LED is off, verify power supply voltage and DIN connector seating
🔴 Valve leaks when closed
Seat contamination or damaged seals are the most likely cause. Use a service kit to replace housing gaskets and valve internals. If leaking continues after a service kit, replace the valve unit.
🔴 HP model not performing at high pressure
Verify the pressure rating. SMART-GUARD-HP model is rated to 725 PSI, the standard SMART-GUARD is only rated to 230 PSI. Exceeding ratings can cause seal failure and erratic operation. Also confirm pipe sizing matches flow requirements at rated pressure.
