Track machine extension from short strokes to 20 meters
Measure boom, outrigger or platform travel with a TSM Sensors cable extension transducer. Compare draw-wire sensor ranges, outputs and available angle feedback to match the movement your controller needs to see.
Track extension and optional inclination on lifting equipment.Measure the movement
How does a draw-wire transducer work?
A steel wire extends from a spring-return drum as the machine moves. The drum rotates with the wire, allowing the sensor to report linear displacement. Select CANopen models with an optional inclinometer when the same installation must also report angle.
Linear travel
Anchor the wire to the moving section and mount the housing to a stable structure. Track extension in meters with 0.1 mm resolution listed across the range.
Optional angle
CET5, CET12 and CET20 CANopen models have 0–360° angle measurement options.
Start with range and interface
Match measurement range and output
Choose travel first, then the signal your controller accepts. Analog models provide voltage or 4–20 mA options; the 5 m relay model gives a switching output. CANopen models add digital feedback, with CANopen Safety or SAE J1939 in specified configurations.
Short to medium reach
CET5000 Analog has 1–5 m versions, while CET5000 Relay and CET5 CANopen are 5 m. Use these for compact extension measurements.
Longer reach
CET12 Analog offers 6–12.5 m, CET12 CANopen has 8–12.5 m, and CET20 CANopen is 20 m.

Available output, connector, angle and safety combinations depend on the exact model configuration.
Apply the measurement
Where do cable transducers help?
On cranes and aerial work platforms, extension feedback tells the controller how far a boom or stabilizer has moved. On construction and agricultural equipment, the same measurement can track actuator or implement travel. A model with inclination feedback can report both extension and tilt where the machine design requires them.
Installation check: Verify the full travel, cable path and clearance, mounting geometry and connection to the controller before selecting a measuring length.
Quick reference
Quick selection checklist
Define travel: minimum and maximum extension in meters.
Decide on angle: linear position only or extension plus inclination.
Match the signal: voltage, 4–20 mA, relay, CANopen or a specified SAE J1939 option.
Check the environment: temperature, ingress protection, shock, vibration and expected operating cycles.
Confirm the exact configuration: supply voltage, connection, available range and any required safety approval.
