Description

IMO UB10D2016A 16A 2-Pole D-Curve Miniature Circuit Breaker, UL 489, 10kA

The IMO Precision Controls UB10D2016A is a 16A, 2-pole miniature circuit breaker with thermo-magnetic overload and short-circuit protection. Rated for 480Y/277V AC or 96V DC, this DIN-rail circuit breaker combines a D trip curve with a 10kA short-circuit breaking capacity for industrial control panels, machinery, and equipment branch circuits. UL 489 approval supports branch-circuit protection when the breaker is applied within its ratings.

The D-curve characteristic accommodates brief periods of high startup current in appropriately selected control-transformer and other inductive-load circuits. A thermal element responds to sustained overloads, while the magnetic element responds to high fault currents. The contact-position indicator provides a visual reference for inspection and troubleshooting.

Key Features and Benefits

  • 16A, 2-pole configuration: Supports equipment and control branches that require 16A, two-pole protection.
  • D trip curve: A magnetic operating range of 10–20 times rated current helps accommodate short-duration inrush.
  • Thermo-magnetic protection: Combines thermal overload response with magnetic short-circuit response.
  • 10kA breaking capacity: Provides a defined short-circuit interruption rating for protective-device coordination.
  • DIN-rail mounting: Integrates into industrial panel layouts, with a 35mm-wide housing and a contact-position indicator.
  • UL 489 approval: Supports selection for industrial branch-circuit protection alongside the specified IEC standards.

D-Curve Operation and Applications

For this 16A breaker, the 10–20 × In magnetic operating range corresponds to approximately 160–320A. This range describes the instantaneous magnetic response; it does not change the breaker's 16A rated current. The thermal element provides the response to sustained overloads.

Typical applications include control-transformer branches, machine-control circuits, and inductive equipment loads with brief startup surges. Selection depends on the circuit voltage, required pole count, conductor capacity, and load characteristics. Match the D curve to the equipment's startup demand and the required fault-clearing performance.

Selection and Installation Considerations

Confirm the 16A rating and two-pole configuration against the connected equipment and conductor requirements. Check the system voltage and available fault current against the applicable breaker ratings, and coordinate the D-curve response with upstream and downstream protective devices.

Allow space for the 108 × 35 × 67mm housing and DIN-rail installation. Use conductors within the specified 18–3 AWG range and tighten terminals to 2.5 N·m. The operating temperature range is −25°C to 55°C, with calibration at 40°C. Review the equipment requirements for the installation environment.

Qualified personnel should complete selection and installation in accordance with the equipment documentation and applicable electrical codes. Separate motor-overload protection remains necessary where required by the equipment or installation.
