Cabinet Cooling Fan Guards & Accessories: Everything You Need to Know in 2026

Wire form guards · Plastic guards · Filter assemblies · Fan cords · Complete kits

⚠ Why this matters

Overheated electronics are a leading cause of unplanned downtime. A proper fan guard + filter setup can prevent component failure and cost far less than an emergency repair.

different types of accessories

1

Wire Form Fan Guards

25–254 mm

✓ What they do

Block debris and protect fingers from fan blades. Rounded wire edges allow more direct, unobstructed airflow than flat sheet metal alternatives.

⚡ Key advantage

23–30% greater airflow vs sheet metal guards. Ideal for high-heat environments where maximum cooling efficiency matters.

📏 Size range

Available from 25 mm to 254 mm (1" to 10"). Covers the vast majority of industrial and commercial fan sizes.

2

Plastic Fan Guards

40–162 mm

Cost-effective and quiet. Sizes run from 40 mm to 162 mm (1.6" to 6.4"). Two installation styles available:

🔧 Screw-mount

Secure, permanent installation. Good for high-vibration environments.

👆 Snap-on

No tools, no hardware. Fastest install, which is ideal for regular filter swaps.

Plastic Fan Filter Assemblies

30–100 PPI

Each assembly includes 3 components: a retainer, polyurethane foam filter, and fan guard. Sizes from 40–162 mm. The foam filter is washable and reusable.

How to choose PPI (pores per inch):

30 PPI: maximum airflow

Fewer, larger pores. Lets more air through; blocks only large particles. Best for dusty environments where airflow is critical.

45 PPI

Fewer, larger pores. Lets more air through; blocks larger particles.

60 PPI

Smaller pores. Catches smaller particles, more effect on airflow.

100 PPI: maximum filtration

Denser pores. Catches finer particles; slightly reduces airflow. Best for clean-room or fine-particle environments.

Fan Power Cords

Made in USA

Connector types

  • → 45° connector
  • → 90° connector
  • → T-style connector
  • → Straight connector

Lengths

Available from 12" to 72" depending on connector type. Choose based on cabinet depth and outlet placement.

🌿 “Green” cords

Built-in thermostat. Fan switches on at 88°F, off at 80°F. Reduces energy use as the fan only runs when needed.

Troubleshooting & Quick Fixes

Cabinet overheating despite running fan

Check if foam filter is clogged. A dense filter at 100 PPI restricts airflow significantly when dirty. Clean or swap to a lower-PPI filter for better throughput.

Smart cord fan not turning on

The thermostat triggers at 88°F. If ambient temp is below this, the fan won’t run. That’s by design. Test in a warmer environment or check thermostat continuity.

Guard rattling or loose

Snap-on plastic guards may loosen over time in high-vibration cabinets. Switch to screw-mount plastic guards or wire form guards for a more permanent fit.
