The Red Lion N-Tron 300 Series Offers Remote Monitoring

June 14 2022

The Red Lion N-TronĀ® 300 series of industrial Ethernet switches, while unmanaged, does offer models with N-View OPC Port Monitoring software. This combines the simplicity of an unmanaged Ethernet switch with the convenience of remotely monitoring port performance. They are all DIN-Rail mounted switches, with 4 to 17 ports. Ethernet switches from the 300 series are also available with fiber optic ports as well as 10/100BaseTX ports. They can be used in more complicated network arrangements, including a star topology type network. A star topology allows one switch to control separate network devices.

N-View OPC Port Monitoring can check on port status and network traffic using OLE for Process Control (OPC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) software. N-View is designed to send packets to the application software that shows the port status for the switch, which features five switch level data points and 41 port level data points. It also features OPC Server to provide for easy port configuration. It searches for N-View switches in the network using MAC addresses, with the ability to give each one an alias for easy identifying. Aliases can also be given to individual ports for faster locating. N-View data points are separated into status variables which show the status of the port or switch, traffic variables which count the number of bytes that are being transmitted, or error variables which show the number of errors for a port.

All 300 series industrial Ethernet switches are available with or without N-View remote monitoring. Models with port monitoring are designated with a -N in the part number. They are useful in data acquisition, control, and Ethernet I/O applications. Certain models are also UL Listed for Class I, Division 2 hazardous locations. All models also feature redundant power inputs and plug-and-play capability. N-View port monitoring also comes standard as a feature on fully managed Red Lion N-TronĀ® series Ethernet switches.
