The Hirschmann OCTOPUS 8M (P/N: 943931-001) is a IP 67 rated managed waterproof switch featuring store and forward switching mode, Ethernet (10 Mbit/s) and Fast Ethernet (100 Mbit/s). It also includes 8 x 10/100BASE-TX, M12 D coding, 4 pole, TP cable, auto-crossing, auto-negotiation & auto-polarity. The OCTOPUS 8M meets IEEE 802.3 standards and can be used in under the more extreme conditions found outdoors. It is especially useful in the transportation industry and is compatible with Hirschmann management software. It is designed to have extra support, including redundancy features and protection from dust & water exposure, as well as from shock & vibration. Any accessories that are used with this switch may not carry the same certifications/specifications, such as IP rating or operating temperature, of the OCTOPUS 8M.
- Auto polarity - If the receive line pair is incorrectly connected (RD+ and RD- switched) polarity is automatically reversed.

Auto-negotiation - a procedure in which the switch automatically selects the operating mode of its 10/100 RJ-45 ports.

Auto-crossing - automatically configures its port for the correct transmit and receive pins
